From the UK, the band Dimitri comes up trumps from the grassroots music scene on this unsuspecting release.
Unsuspecting, because the packaging gives little away as to the real mix of sounds to be found on the project.
Firstly, it all goes back to the days when bands made real and raw music and certainly here frontman Jimi K is not afraid to experiment. Terms like ‘Funk’, ‘Acid Jazz’ and, dare I say it, ‘white Soul’ can be added to his musical tag “Hypnotised” couldn’t get any more likeable with its Jamiroquai-style Funk chorus and the title track “Natural High” is catchy Pop meshed with touches of Jazz and 70s vibes. The singer’s heartfelt delivery makes its mark on “Traveller” and the personalised “Can’t Stop Crying”. Some of his East London influence (where he was born) also comes in on the feel-good groover “Whistle And Flute”.

It may be coincedence that dimitri’s debut shares it’s title with Bloodstone’s 1973 hit single, but the same soulful groove which courses through the 33 year old vinal is very much in evidence on this album.
The slower moments certainly echo Blodstone’s ballad and also compares to the likes of Bill Withers whilst big fat Level 42 bass lines and driving Isley Brothers style lead guitar licks are the backbone to the pacier material and whilst it’s inclusion in these oages is a moot point, it is nonetheless a cracking album of rocky funk.

Dimitri play Christian music, gospel music and provide the ability to download their music for free. Christian funk, Christian soul is what it’s all about. The best way to describe it is that the passion of the holy spirit lights up my inner being. I still get so excited when I look into his heart. The music I write comes from my heart. Gospel music should be free for download. Christian music should be free.
